Mark D. Kilgus MD, PhD
Outpatient Behavioral Health
Meet Mark D. Kilgus
I have been involved with academic medicine throughout my career. Training the next generation of physicians is both a responsibility and a passion. Contributing to the evidence that guides clinical practice should be a natural pursuit for all of us in medicine. Such evidence clearly points to integrated care models that simultaneously treat mental and physical health needs in the same place by the same clinicians. Such practice goes a long way toward reducing the stigma of mental illness.
This points to the need for clinicians who are competent in both spheres. That is why I am teaching psychiatry to Family Medicine Residents at Lexington Health. It has become clear that there is no health without mental and spiritual health, so integrated holistic care is both cost-effective and essential to medical practice.
